My gums bleed – where is the problem?

Gum bleeding is a symptom of gingivitis. The gingivitis shows itself by reddening, swelling, higher sensitivity and bleeding of gums.

The main cause of gingivitis is bacteria which multiply in the dental plaque staying on the teeth and mucous membranes. After several days the plaque mineralizes and turns into tartar. It is important to know that by smokers the gums do not bleed and the disease can be easily overlooked. The gingivitis can be successfully cured and it is possible to prevent it by good dental hygiene.
